gun insurance: explain it to me

We believe our gun insurance program is the best in the country. Take a look below to see how our program works and why it’s the best gun insurance you can buy!

annual policy

Our policy is an annual policy, not just for a trip or a season. Once issued, your Certificate of Coverage is valid for one full year and is renewed annually.

cost

Annual cost is only $1.25 per $100 of insured value ($12.50 per $1,000, $125 per $10,000). while other gun insurance providers raise their premiums on a regular basis, our cost has been the same for 20 years. This is scheduled insurance, so you must list each item you want to insure. each item will have an insured value that is used to calculate your annual premium. that way, you’ll know exactly how much insurance you have for each item.

primary insurance

Our policy is primary insurance. therefore, it is not necessary to have a personal effects float in your insured items. This also means that in the event of a loss, you do not need to contact your homeowner’s insurance company or file a claim with them. Your gun insurance policy will pay the full insured value of your loss, with no deductible.

replacement value coverage

For items still in production, your coverage is for full replacement value. this means that in the event of a total loss, we will replace the lost items with the same or equivalent new item. there is no deduction for depreciation. For discontinued items and certain custom items with an agreed value, your coverage is for the full amount shown on the schedule. in the event of a loss, you will be paid for the full scheduled value of your loss without any deduction for depreciation. In the event of accidental damage or breakage to a scheduled item, we will pay to repair or replace it up to the policy limits.

what is covered

Your gun insurance coverage is very similar to floating personal articles insurance (PAF) that you may have as part of your homeowners or renters policy. It is also an “all risk” policy. this means that the policy covers all risks that are not specifically excluded by the policy. the most important thing is scheduled coverage. each item you want to insure must be listed and assigned an appropriate insurable value. In general, a covered loss occurs when an insured item is stolen, lost, or accidentally damaged. after a loss is reported, the insurance company will repair (if economically feasible) or replace the item if it is still being manufactured. For insured items that are out of production, the carrier will pay the insured value.
